This particular design style has its origins in Sweden, and it’s become the main protagonist of the interior design scene for quite a few years now, as it’s almost impossible not to be charmed by the clean lines, neutral tones, balance and warmth that define its environments.
In order to increase the feeling of light in a place where winters are long and days can be quite short, Scandinavian design incorporates loads of white and neutral tones. Its main focus is to combine a base of light colored furnishings and walls – mostly white and light wood – to a few carefully selected contrasting elements, such as textiles, wall decor, plaids or set of plants.
There is an obvious link to the earth and nature, as Scandinavian design often establishes an outdoor-indoor connection by using natural, organic materials such as leather, metal and natural textiles like linen, cotton, hemp.

The perfect aesthetic pallor of a Scandinavian interior creates an effect of freshness that’s relaxing on the eye and soul. Galleries of white walls and white furniture are mixed to accents of grey and black to bring balance, this is the Scandinavian classical color palette.
Nothing must be ever out of place, keep spaces free of clutter to be both authentically Scandinavian and easy to navigate. The interior must be carefully furnished and functional in order to create an environment that reflects the three core components of Scandinavian designs: beauty, unity, and simplicity, always in a subtle way and never loud.
So if you are looking for a style where less is more and that’s easy to maintain then surely Scandinavian is the one for you!
