Wall Decor for a Small Bedroom
Instead of focusing on the size, attention should be directed towards stunning details, think of a statement wall behind your bed, it’s a perfect feature to distract the eye. Pick monochromatic colors for your decor pieces and choose light natural color shades of a single hue.
Also wallpaper is ideal to get some texture and interest to your walls, choosing a pattern with small repeats will help you make your space look bigger. This is also true if you are considering buying a rug, large patterned rugs can really create the inconvenience of making your floor space look small.
Fabrics for a Small Bedroom
Keep all textiles bright and light; you should avoid heavy fabrics they will only weigh the room down, especially for window curtains. Choose fresh linen or see-through fabrics instead, your room will look airy with plenty of light.
Bed linen should all be light colored, non necessarily white but any hue of light blue, pink, beige, yellow or green would be just fine.
Installing pendant lights by the bed is also a great solution to save some precious surface on your nightstands, and they really look so good, you can find some fantastic design around at a reasonable price. You’ll be spoiled for choice.
Furniture for a Small Bedroom
A big challenge is to find multifunctional or flexible pieces of furniture, in this case vertical storage is always a good idea when there isn’t enough floor space to move around. Try to put some shelving high above your bed or on to other walls available, they are perfect to store books, boxes, plants and decor pieces.
Another way to enhance space is to choose wall-mounted furniture such as nightstands, wall drawers or a desk if you require one. It will immediately double the size of your room, and you’ll have less troubles doing your cleanings.
Mirrors work wonders for small spaces. Place a large mirror on your main wall or if there is enough space get a mirrored wardrobe.
Let’s talk about storage. When your bedroom is small, you don’t have the luxury to opt for decorative storage pieces, but you should consider built-in furnitures instead.
The photo below is a great example of a how to use your space wisely. As you can see there is a huge amount of storage here, just work all your way around the bed up to the ceiling, leaving some open shelves at bed’s height for day to day items.
Have you considered a smaller bed? Surely, you might sacrifice your level of comfort a bit, but it will definitely change the way your bedroom looks. A queen size bed is most appropriate for a small bedroom. Also consider using storage boxes that can be hidden under the bed, or if you are buying new furnitures make sure you get a bed that has storage space underneath. It’s incredible the amount of things you can fit in there if they are well packed!
Be creative, if space is extremely small you could consider buying a sofa bed to open in the evening just before going to bed. It’s important in this case to get a high quality product, as likely you’ll be using it during the day time as well. Therefore, you want to be sure the foam and mattress will last the test of time.
